I take a LOT of phone photos.

I have 4,112 photos currently on my  phone’s camera roll (4,110 of those are of my kids… and by kids I mean dogs). #dogmomproud

  • How many of you take photos on your phone? 🙋🏻‍♀️
  • How many of you have ever had a phone go kaput and lost some of your favorite photos? 🙋🏻‍♀️
  • How many of you back up your phone photos?🙋🏻‍♀️

You might of noticed I like photos. And sure, I have my “big girl camera” that I use for client sessions and big life moments, but I also love having a camera with me 24/7 and the phone is that camera.

All my big camera photos are backed up on an external hard drive and a cloud based service because I’d be devastated to lose them. I’m also a professional and having a back up is part of that job.

But I’d also be devastated to lose any of those 4,112 images on my phone too.

Want to take better pictures of your dog?

Yes, even with your phone.

Always Back Up Your Photos

Being risk averse is probably in my genes. The number one tip my dad ever gave me when learning to drive was to “always have a place to go”. Which in driving, means in case of emergency have a back up plan.

I have a back up for everything. For example, all client images are backed up SIX times…7 times until they are fully delivered to you. On an external hard drive and on a cloud service both RAW & JPG (plus, the web versions). Technically, I guess my clients also have printed back ups of the images they loved.

I also back up ALL my phone photos.

I have my phone images backing up automatically on iCloud, Amazon Photos, and Google Photos. Facebook & Instagram don’t count as back up (1. They compress your images. 2. You probably don’t post every single photo, just the best one from the selfie session you just had with you dog. See photo exhibit, ONE of approximated 178 selfies with my dog.)

If you have Amazon Prime you can back up all your personal photos in high resolution for free! Google gives you 15 GB. iCloud gives you 5 GB. Plus, you can buy more storage for cheap.
