It’s Week 4 of the Pet Photography Project 52! This week is all about catch lights! What’s a catch light?
Can you spot the difference? Clarabelle on the left has eyes that are full of life, and if you know Clarabelle, have a mischievous glint to them. Clarabelle on the right is a little flat and lifeless. What’s the difference? A Catch Light!
A catch light is just that little reflection of light in the eyes. It gives the eye shape and dimension. Catch lights can add that little bit of magic and sparkle that take a photograph from a snap shot to a portrait that really captures the subject.
Check out the images of Parcheesi below. Which image do you prefer? With or without the catch light? (PS. Parcheesi is newly available for adoption at the Humane Society of Morgan County)
The catchlights really do make a huge difference. You can tell in your examples here!
Oh Clarabelle’s little face made me laugh out loud and Parcheesi is adorable. When the catchlights are removed they are kind of spooky, sucks the life right out of them. Great visuals!
Beautiful images and great work helping get that little nugget adopted!
Love showing the with and without! Really shows the difference it makes!
I love the way you handled this week’s topic. Great to show the before and after. Lovely photos.
OMGosh, that first image when I opened the page made me grin from ear to ear! Wonderful examples of catchlights.
I also liked seeing with and without side-by-side. Great job!
I find that small dark eyes are harder to get those catch-lights. Great examples and wonderful job!
What a great way to show the importance of a catch light.
I love how you did the “without” catchlights – i delete them way too fast – haha! Great post! Wishing that adorable puppy a forever home!!!
Seeing the without really helps drive the point home.
Nice examples of with and without catchlights.
The before and after photos really showcase catchlights.
Catchlights always! It makes such a difference as your beautiful examples show.
Nice demonstrations of with and without! Fun photos too!
Great examples – I like that you showed with and without catchlights….one thing I might need to figure out is how to add catchlights in post processing if they aren’t there…I assume it isn’t that hard – nice job!
